Elder Tony McGill's Biography
Preacher, Producer, song writer, and gospel recording artist. Elder Tony McGill was born November 1, 1960, in Los Angeles, CA. He is currently married to Debra, and together, they have four children and eight grandchildren. Tony started his musical journey early in life at the All-Nation Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church. Tony directed the choir at the age of twelve, when Mattie Lee Williams, the church mother, took him to a Rev. James Cleveland concert. There, he heard harmonies like never before. Tony asked Mother Williams to take him to the church, where he laid at the altar and asked the Lord to open his ears. Immediately, he rose from the altar and began to teach his choir to sing in harmony.
This blessing was the beginning of Tony’s ability to teach under the anointing of God. After leaving All-Nation, he went to the Testimonial Cathedral Church of God and Christ, under the leadership of J. Bernard Hackworth, who ordained him as an Elder in the Church of God and Christ. As a very gifted Choir Director, Elder McGill became the Minister of Music for the Academy Cathedral under Pastor Doyle Heart, Greater First Christian Church, under Pastor Michael Starks and he became the Choir Director for the Brookinaires Gospel Choir at First A.M.E church under the Rev. Dr. Cecil L “Chip” Murray.
Throughout his musical career, Elder McGill worked with renowned artists such as Rev. James Cleveland, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, Professor Iris Stevenson, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Douglas Miller, Bernie Dunlap, Andre and Sandra Crouch, and many others. Elder McGill also served on the National Board of Music for the Churches of God and Christ International Music Department as the Southwest Regional Coordinator, which encompasses California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Hawaii.
Tony was the Founder of the Southern California Holy Gospel Music Workshop Choir. On their debut album, Elder McGill featured over 550 voices. He had two albums released with the Southern California Gospel Choir produced by Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Tony also recorded one album with the Testimonial Cathedral Choir, which was produced by Iris Stevenson. Two solo albums, one under the New Dawn Record Label and the other produced by A.J. Johnson were also released. Tony is currently working on another album to be released soon.
